What Will Be CES 2025’s Tech Gadget of the Year? Your Next Car
December 23, 2024
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and I’m not referring to the holidays. It’s CES season! It’s time to watch my favorite Vegas-based movie, Ocean’s Eleven, and prepare for the annual pilgrimage to learn about the gadgets and tech that will define our future.
All the glitz and glamour will be on full display, with heavy hitter keynotes from Volvo Group’s president and CEO, Martin Lundstedt, alongside CEOs from Nvidia, Panasonic, Delta Airlines, Accenture, and SiriusXM. Also, many from FINN will be onsite with our clients, including:
- HERE Technologies (Vehicle Tech; LVCC West Hall, 3500)
- IEEE (5G, Cybersecurity, etc.; LVCC Central Hall, 20730)
- Roborock (Robotics; Venetian Expo, Halls A-D, 52339)
- Shokz (Consumer Tech; LVCC Central Hall, 15825)
- TP Link (Smart Home and Appliances; Venetian Expo, Halls A-D, 52323)
- The Thread Group (Parks Assoc. Connections Smart Home Summit)
As CES confirms its place as the world’s premier automotive tech trade show, I’m stoked for what’s in store for Vehicle Tech and Advanced Mobility. Our cars are the most complex consumer tech that we’ll purchase in our lifetime. They are increasingly aware of and connected to one another and their environment, as well as more automated, efficient, and sustainable.
Building on the software-defined vehicle (SDV) trend that emerged in 2024, SDVs will become part of the consideration set for people planning to purchase one of the 15M+ new vehicles expected to be sold in the US in 2025 (Source: Cox).
This year will reveal more specifics enabled by the era of SDVs, including companies with integrated tech stacks and infotainment innovations following General Motors move away from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
What’s the next evolution of SDV technology discourse? The evolution of AI and ML implementation throughout, as they’re maturing into a near-consumer-ready phase of adoption. While today’s vehicles lack the computational power to run AI, companies like Qualcomm have introduced powerful microchips capable of running AI within a vehicle (Source: Motor Trend).
This is the space to watch if you want to communicate with an in-vehicle AI by simply pointing at something. Creepy? Yes. Super cool? Also, yes.
With these acronyms littering hundreds of press releases, whose news will stand out from the pack? Follow #CES2025 on social channels or find a publication’s daily live blog: Automotive News, WIRED and Engadget are all excellent resources.
I think CES 2025 will be monumental for the future of automotive technology and will catapult us into a new era of software-defined vehicles, completely changing how we interact with them. What do you think will be the defining moment of CES 2025?
