Professional Experience
After starting my career in media, I eventually took on leadership roles in research, strategy and digital services at other Boston agencies. For the last 16+ years, as the CEO of Small Army, I’ve leveraged that experience and honed my skills, leading a team of talented strategic and creative individuals, to help brands of all sizes and most every industry build relationships with people. We do this by discovering the soul of the brand (the moral of the story) and then crafting stories that share that moral to engage audiences and cause them to act. My book, The Moral of the Story, shares my journey and philosophy in more detail. Or, for the abridged version, check out this TedX Talk.
Relationships are everything.
How'd you get here?
After procrastinating in applying for internships my senior year in college, I learned that a friend was running the internship program at Arnold Advertising in Boston. I begged him for a job, and he was kind enough to find me a spot in their media department. About 12 years and many amazing experiences later (2002), I started Boston ad agency, Small Army, with my good friend and colleague, Mike Connell. Mike lost a battle to cancer in 2007, but I kept our dream alive and grew Small Army to one of Boston’s top ad agencies and a 3-time Inc 5000 Company. In 2019, Small Army proudly became part of FINN Partners.
